FREE! is a new anime about a high school (Iwatobi High School) swim club. Nagisa is a first-year boy who also goes to Iwatobi High School. He is very spirited and not afraid to speak his mind. He has admired Haruka's (a friend and fellow swimmer) swimming since elementary school and enrolls at his high school hoping to swim with him again. He comes up with the idea to start a swim club at Iwatobi High, and is treasurer for the club. He has a strange fascination towards the club's penguin mascot, Iwatobi-chan. His swimming style is breaststroke. (Thanks, Wikipedia for this perfect description of Nagisa!)
How I Made It
I bought the swim trunks, goggles, and wig (needed to use some styling, but it was already cut to match). I did make the hoodie (using my own pattern) featuring Iwatobi-chan! The hoodie is made from polar fleece and took less than a day to construct. I added a small beak at the top of the hood along with Iwatobi-chan's star eyes, and feathers that stick out. I also modified the hoodie to add a penguin tail as well. The hoodie is super comfortable and warm, not to mention adorable.
This costume was supposed to debut at Dragon Con 2013, however my partner who had made a hoodie for another character in the show (Kou/Gou) and I just couldn't get our schedules to meet up. I'll be getting photos of this costume soon at a friend's pool. I'm super proud of this hoodie!
