Handsome Spike from My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic
Debuted: Brony Fest 2013. Worn also at Brony Fan Fair 2013.How I Made It
I already had the original Spike costume (see construction notes here), so I needed to make his tux, shirt, and accessories. The hat was bought off Amazon and I found a large red feather, which I painted the rachis (the main stem of a vaned feather) in gold to mock the phoenix feathers that Spike uses as his quills when writing to Princess Celestia. I bought the red bowtie off of Amazon as well. The tux coat and dress shirt were found at my local thrift store and I heavily altered them both. The shirt had both sleeves removed and I cut the cuffs of them as well. I hemmed and sewed the shirt to be very shirt and more fitted to my Spike costume. The coat had both sleeves hemmed and I sewed the cuffs from the white shirt to the sleeves of the jacket as well. I modified the jacket from being a simple tux to being a fancy tux with tails. I cut the front of the jacket up to the bottom of the front pockets and then sewed the whole front. I formed the tails in the back of the jacket by cutting the backside a bit and then cutting and hemming up the slit so the tails would hang perfectly around Spike's tail. I then cut a small piece of red satin and made my own pocket handkerchief, folded it to be in triple triangles, and then added that to the front pocket of the jacket for a pop of color.Images taken by Chinako's Cosplay and convention-goers
